Electromagnetic radiation from temporal variations in space-time and progenitors of gamma ray burst and millisecond pulsars

چکیده
A time varying space-time metric is shown to be a source of electromagnetic radiation even in the absence of charge sources. The postNewtonian approximation is used as a realistic model of the connection between the space-time metric and a time varying gravitational potential. Large temporal variations in the metric from the coalescence of relativistic stars are shown to be likely progenitors of gamma ray burst and millisecond pulsars.

Temporal variations in space-time and progenitors of gamma ray burst and millisecond pulsars
A time varying space-time metric is shown to be a source of electromagnetic radiation. The post-Newtonian approximation is used as a realistic model of the connection between the space-time metric and a time varying gravitational potential. Large temporal variations in the metric from the coalescence of colliding black holes and neutron stars are shown to be possible progenitors of gamma ray bu...
متن کاملAn Explanation for the Bimodal Duration Distribution of Gamma-Ray Bursts: Millisecond Pulsars from Accretion-Induced Collapse
Cosmological gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) could be driven by dissipation of pure electromagnetic energy (Poynting flux) extracted from rapidly rotating compact objects with strong magnetic fields. One such possibility is a young millisecond pulsar (MSP) formed from accretion-induced collapse (AIC) of a white dwarf. The combination of an efficient magnetic dynamo, likely operating during the first se...
متن کاملFormation of Millisecond Pulsars from Accretion Induced Collapse and Constraints on Pulsar Gamma Ray Burst Models
We study accretion induced collapse of magnetized white dwarfs as an origin of millisecond pulsars. We apply magnetized accretion disk models to the pre-collapse accreting magnetic white dwarfs and calculate the white dwarf spin evolution. If the pulsar magnetic field results solely from the flux-frozen fossil white dwarf field, a typical millisecond pulsar is born with a field strength ∼ 10 − ...
متن کاملGamma-ray Burst Afterglow with Continuous Energy Injection: Signature of a Highly-magnetized Millisecond Pulsar
We investigate the consequences of a continuously injecting central engine on the gamma-ray burst afterglow emission, focusing more specifically on a highly-magnetized millisecond pulsar engine. For initial pulsar parameters within a certain region of the parameter space, the afterglow lightcurves are predicted to show a distinctive achromatic bump feature, the onset and duration of which range...
متن کاملGamma-ray burst afterglows and evolution of postburst fireballs with energy injection from strongly magnetic millisecond pulsars
Millisecond pulsars with strong magnetic fields may be formed through several processes, e.g. accretion-induced collapse of magnetized white dwarfs, merger of two neutron stars, and accretion-induced phase transitions of neutron stars. During the birth of such a pulsar, an initial fireball available for a gamma-ray burst (GRB) may occur. We here study evolution of a postburst relativistic fireb...
